Production facility honored for supply chain and customer intimacy |
 | Our Augsburg plant won the international 2003 Industrial Excellence Award, beating out a number of competitors in the process. The Fujitsu facility, which produces mainboards, SCENIC professional PCs, Intel-based PRIMERGY servers and more, gained top marks for things like product and process development, human resources and knowledge management. The competition, which is organized |
by French management school INSEAD and German business academy WHU, examines process quality, including customer and supplier integration, innovation management and strategy implementation. Key criteria include having the ability to adapt quickly and flexibly to constantly changing market conditions.
Supply chain flexibility and the “breathing factory” One aspect singled out for special praise was the factory’s outstanding supply chain management. The idea behind the breathing factory concept is to optimize resources and even out fluctuations in demand. This shortened customer lead times while improving delivery reliability. The company also gained plus points with its build-to-order strategy, which eliminates stockpiles and offers customers major flexibility in terms of system configurations. It gives us an lasting competitive advantage, and this is something we reinforce through ongoing benchmarking in the never-ending search for best practices. |
