PRIMERGY BX900
Storage Blades

The cost effective storage solution

Storage Blades PRIMERGY SX9xx are designed for installation into the PRIMERGY BX900 system units, together with the PRIMERGY Server Blades.
The introduction of Storage Blades Disk for all PRIMERGY Blade Servers offers an easy and cost effective server consolidation opportunity, i.e. for a transition from rack or tower servers to high density Blade Server architecture. On the other hand, usage of tape drive equipped Storage Blades (available for certain Blade Servers) offers an easy and fast way to backup system data locally. It is often essential to have local access to large amounts of data; this for example applies to the world of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), where smaller workgroups locally have to work on and create very large models. Operation within confined environments as file servers as well as for Microsoft® SharePoint portals and Microsoft® SQL Servers are popular usage cases for disk-based Storage Blades.

PRIMERGY SX940

The PRIMERGY SX940 S1 Direct Attached Storage Blade Disk can be used to extend the internal storage capacity of PRIMERGY BX92x Server Blades.
A maximum of four internal disk drives greatly extends the maximum amount of disk storage of a Server Blade. One Storage Blade occupies a Blade slot within the PRIMERGY BX900 S1 system unit; it is positioned either on the left or right to an adjacent BX92x Server Blade, or between the two. The 1x 4 or 2x 2 disk drives of one SX940 S1 are driven by 1 or 2 integrated, highly functional SAS/RAID controllers with 512 Mbyte cache and BBU. Each controller provides RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 6.
The connection to each Server Blade is realized via a midplane link to the high performing PCIe x4 interfaces of each Server Blade’s system board.
FeatureBenefit
PRIMERGY SX940 S1 provides up to 4 additional disk drives for one or two Server Blades; up to six Storage Blades Disk usable per system unit.Variability through the optional choice of either connecting 2x up to 2 drives to two different, adjacent Server Blades,
or to connect up to 4 disk drives to one adjacent Server Blade.
Mid-plane connection via PCIe x4 interface.Avoidance of additional cabling due to the direct connection to Server Blade(s) via the high performance midplane, no
need for additional disk controller slots in Server Blade(s).
SAS hard disk drives.High capacity of up to 584 GB with high quality SAS HDDs.
High performance RAID controller (1x or 2x) within the Storage Blade, providing RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 6, accelerated
by 512 MB cache module and secured by iBBU
The write-back cache comprehensively enhances the speed of write operations and in the event of power failures,
the integrated Battery Backup Unit guarantees data integrity.
