Going wireless with WIDCOMM BluetoothTM technology
Fujitsu Siemens Computers supplying notebooks with the latest
Bluetooth solution from WIDCOMM
Munich / Germany, February 24, 2004 —Starting immediately, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is shipping
its lightweight LIFEBOOK S Series notebooks with optional
BluetoothTM wireless technology as well as its CONNECT2AIR
Bluetooth USB dongle with the latest Bluetooth solution from
WIDCOMM. This enables printer, keyboard and mouse to connect to PCs
and notebooks without unwieldy cables. Other highlights include
data synchronization between notebooks and handhelds and data
exchange with Bluetooth systems from other vendors, as WIDCOMM
software supports all major Bluetooth standards.
In Europe, Bluetooth is increasingly establishing itself as
the industry standard for wireless communication between computers
and devices. “Europe leads the world in user acceptance of
Bluetooth,” said Chris Jones, Director and Senior Analyst at
Canalys. “The number of mobile Bluetooth devices is growing.
To make the most of this trend, it is highly important for PC
vendors to integrate Bluetooth into their products and offer
flexible connectivity to users who spend much of their professional
life on the move.”
“WIDCOMM Bluetooth for Windows (BTW) 1.4 is a complete
and extremely robust Bluetooth solution,” explained Peter
Eßer, Executive Vice President Volume Products and Supply
Operations at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “On request, we will
now supply our LIFEBOOK S Series notebooks with WIDCOMM’s
integrated Bluetooth solution. This standard will enable our
customers to use their mobile companions to print documents without
awkward cabling and synchronize data with other devices, such as
handhelds and smartphones.”
“The demand for our wireless Bluetooth applications is
driven by the increasing requirements that end customers are
communicating to computer manufacturers,” said Jacques
Beneteau, Vice President Marketing at WIDCOMM. “Our Bluetooth
solution provides the widest chipset support in the industry and we
support application developers with a special software development
kit. WIDCOMM also provides local support in Europe. By teaming up
with Fujitsu Siemens Computers and its strong product portfolio, we
have the ideal launch pad for gaining a successful market presence
in Europe.“
Special strengths of WIDCOMM BTW 1.4 are the variety of
Bluetooth profiles it supports, including the HID (Human Interface
Device) profile for mouse and keyboard, extensive test programs for
communication with other Bluetooth devices, and integration of
Bluetooth functions into the Windows user interface. As well as in
English, the BTW 1.4 is also available in German, French and
Swedish.
