Fujitsu Siemens Computers Announces PRIMERGY BX600 –
The 4-way Server Blade for Power-Hungry Data Centers
Company offers the most diverse blade portfolio in the
market
Munich / Germany, August 11, 2004 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers today announced the launch of
PRIMERGY BX600 4-way Server Blade which is ideal for power-hungry
data centers. The new blade will be available in August and is
currently the most compact SCSI server blade worldwide. At a
starting price of €8,000 (plus VAT), the BX600 is the ideal
platform for power-hungry enterprise applications due to its high
performance and flexibility.
The PRIMERGY BX600 Blade Server is the ideal answer to cope
with the demands of modern corporate data centers and internet or
application service providers. With an installation of up to 30
4-way servers in a 46-unit 19-inch rack, IT managers can use the
optimal floor space in their data centres. Additional features
include reliability and redundant components, as well as its easy
and effective administration. The PRIMERGY Server Management Suite
included with delivery ensures trouble-free system installation and
configuration.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has already successfully
implemented solutions which include PRIMERGY BX600 for a variety of
customer projects, often involving complex storage demands. The
South African Department of Labour has eagerly adopted the new
blade technology and is currently operating 313 BX600 blade servers
(2-way), which are distributed across the entire country.
AMS BG, Austria’s service provider for the
un-employment Departement AMS, is currently testing the BX600 Blade
Server for use as an e-mail server. Earlier tests illustrated its
flexibility and scalability and as soon as the test phase is
completed, the BX600 Blade Server will go live throughout the
country.
The city council of Wolverhampton, London, UK recently
implemented a completely new server technology solution based on
the easy administration of BX300 and BX600 Blade Servers in order
to provide the community with the best possible service and meet
the legal requirement that city councils must offer all their
public services online by the year 2005.
The new 4-way variant of the BX600 offers complete blade

become available in Germany in September 2004 at a starting price
of a little under €8,000 (plus VAT). An entry-level system
with a complete PRIMERGY BX600 Blade Server with two 4-way server
blades will cost around €23,100 (plus VAT).

About PRIMERGY BX600 4-way Server Blade - Technical
Highlights
Maximum performance
Up to four Intel Xeon MP Processors; max. 16 GB main
memory; four Gigabit Ethernet channels; up to four Fibre Channel
I/O channels for connecting SAN systems.
Flexibility
Since the 4-way processor server blade uses the same
PRIMERGY BX600 infrastructure as the dual processor blade, it can
be operated in the same chassis (mixed configurations). The
PRIMERGY BX600 chassis holds up to five 4-way blades or up to ten
2-way blades.
Investment protection
Starting in the fourth quarter of 2004, the 2-way
server blade will be available with the new Intel Xeon EM64T
processors (code name “Nocona”), as will all other
2-way tower and rack servers of the PRIMERGY product family.
Up to five hot-pluggable server blades, each with up
to four Intel Xeon MP processors ( 3 GHz, 4 MB
TLC) and up to 16 GB ECC DDR SDRAM (PC2100)
The PRIMERGY BX600 Blade Server system can hold dual
and 4-way blade servers simultaneously (mixed configuration)
Each server blade can be equipped with up to two
hot-pluggable Ultra320 SCSI hard drives with up to 146 GB each. The
SCSI hard disks do not require a separate blade slot.
