Wolverhampton City Council Serves the Community with Fujitsu Siemens Computers

Wolverhampton City Council maximises operational efficiency and improves the delivery of core services to the local community with Fujitsu Siemens Computers blade server technology solution

Munich/Germany, August 30, 2004 —Wolverhampton City Council/UK has implemented a new Fujitsu Siemens Computers blade server technology solution to help it deliver the best possible service to its local community and meet the Government's 2005 deadline that requires all councils to provide public services online.

The City Council is focused on increasing efficiency and improving its remit of delivering first-rate public services across a wide range of key business processes including collecting taxes and providing benefit payments. The decision to move to Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Intel-based PRIMERGY BX 600 and BX300 blade servers was taken after a period of evaluation lasting three months. Wolverhampton City Council was previously using servers from the competitors.

Matt Jeavons, LAN Manager at Wolverhampton City Council commented: "With our old systems, there were a number of constraints in our data centre. We needed a solution to consolidate our existing servers and allow for rapid expansion. Key drivers for the project were a need to reduce the physical footprint required by 'traditional servers' together with the total power and air conditioning requirements for our data centre. The adoption of Fujitsu Siemens Computers blades has also allowed us to move easily to fully automated server provisioning."

The Fujitsu Siemens Computers solution, managed and supported by Fujitsu Services, wasn’t the only implementation considered. Jeavons continued: "We’d been committed users of the same servers for years and had been holding off approaching other vendors whilst awaiting the provision of evaluation the predecessor hardware and implementation support. Our previous vendor was unable to supply the necessary resources which then left us seeking an alternative vendor.

We chose Fujitsu Siemens Computers on the basis of two key factors. Firstly they were able to provide high quality equipment, which more than met our expectations in terms of functionality, and secondly they proved to be exceptionally willing to work up-front with us to develop a partnership which ensured the delivery of a solution that would be a 'best-fit' for the Council."

Steve Kendall-Smith, Managing Director, Fujitsu Siemens Computers UK, said: "Local Governments are increasingly faced with the challenge of having to manage fast-growing volumes of data effectively. Our hardware is proving extremely powerful in supporting a range of mission-critical functions for Wolverhampton City Council, helping them deliver the best possible service to the local community both now and in the future."
