Fujitsu Siemens Computers ‘Back-to-School’
Notebook Offers
AMILO notebooks help to ease the pressure – because
student life can be tough enough!
Munich / Germany, September 16, 2004 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers today announced three special
offers for its AMILO notebooks to coincide with students returning
to university across Europe. With Information Communications
Technology (ICT) now firmly on school curricula and wireless
connectivity on the increase at universities, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers has designed these products to help students complete
their class work more easily and use the latest technology to
enrich their study experience, because it is often tough enough
juggling commitments to different studies…both curricula and
extra curricula!

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering its AMILO M notebook
with Mobile Celeron processor and WLAN, which is ideal for students
moving between lectures at university. With wireless connectivity
built into the machine it will enable students to download research
at any time. Furthermore, with up to 80GB for hard disk drive
storage and 64MB shared memory for graphics, it is powerful enough
for students to store heavy-duty graphics such as maps or intricate
design drawings on their notebook.
The AMILO L gives students the power of an Intel Celeron
Desktop Processor and the flexibility to get away from noise when
they are trying to make sure an essay is handed in on time. With
five USB 2.0 ports it is also ideal for the budding film maker or
music producer, as well as for media studies students, because it
enables the user to attach all the latest digital multi-media
devices to the PC.
“While it is still early days, schools are beginning to
use notebooks and PCs more often to support classroom activities
and universities expanding wireless connectivity across campuses,
which is all helping to encourage the use of ICT in education
across Europe,” said Peter Eßer, Executive Vice
President Volume Products and Supply Operations, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers. “These AMILO offers from Fujitsu Siemens Computers
acknowledge that not every student requires the top performance of
the latest technology to complete studies, but the additional
multi-media capabilities mean that students can enrich the work
they do – as well as listen to music to help ease the
strain!”
The AMILO K notebook is based on AMD Athlon XP-M, which
creates an affordable package for students who require a notebook
that can perform basic functions well. The hard drive can
sufficiently store 30 GB of information and data. For those moments
when not studying, it comes with CD burning capabilities, so the
user can create his or her own record collection or if just wanting
to kick back and watch a movie to unwind after a long day, the
15” screen and DVD functionality makes it possible to see
films.
In March 2004 the European Information Network on Education
in Europe (Eurydice) (1) released its latest statistical review on
the adoption of Information Communications Technology (ICT) in
schools and it is clear that it is becoming an integral part of
education systems across the continent. Research showed that ICT is
now part of the minimum curriculum of pupils virtually everywhere
in Europe (2).
