Fujitsu Siemens Computers CTO demonstrates how IT helps to
drive innovation, growth and cost efficiency at IDC European IT
Forum 2004
Paris, September 28, 2004 —Dr. Joseph Reger, Chief Technology Officer, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers held a keynote today at the IDC European IT Forum 2004 in
Paris, challenging the notion of “IT doesn’t
matter”. As part of the plenary session "Technologies
for Enhancing Efficiencies and for Spurring Innovations”, Dr.
Reger outlined how IT can effectively deliver value through its
usage and translation into business innovation; that it is not just
a capital asset. As companies today increasingly focus on global
strategies for the development and deployment of products,
solutions and services, CIOs and IT organizations need to help
their internal customers benefit from an optimized IT
infrastructure. Fujitsu Siemens Computers advocates that to enable
innovation, it is essential to link IT and business, and improve
investment cycles into the IT infrastructure.
“If companies want to achieve a reduction in the total
cost of ownership, they need to do this in the context of also
enhancing business efficiency, business agility, and business
continuity,” said Dr. Reger, Chief Technology Officer,
Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
To achieve this, Dr. Reger outlined experiences of how
specific solutions can help companies take out cost of their
infrastructure, enabling innovation in the entire solution stack.
“Companies need to focus on three core technologies:
virtualization, automation and integration. The result will be
simplified IT infrastructures which can offer on-demand
provisioning and other autonomic features, resulting in significant
TCO reductions.“ He demonstrated this through using FlexFrame
for mySAP as a prime example of where these principles work today,
resulting in up to 60% TCO, and allowing companies to use resource
for other innovation.
“The main message I want to leave with the audience is
that the proper IT infrastructure will enable them to save on
low-value ongoing operational IT costs, redirect focus into
high-value business driven IT solutions which will allow room for
organizational activity and business transformation. And last but
not least: innovate for growth and value, but be impatient for cost
and profitability,” ended Dr. Reger.
FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite – Background
FlexFrame for my SAP Business Suite is the IT Infrastructure
realization of SAP Adaptive Computing capabilities and a joint
project of the technology partners Fujitsu Siemens Computers and
Network Appliance. The Total Cost of Ownership of the entire
IT-landscape can be significantly lowered by reduced efforts for
company internal integration. With this, companies are enabled to
pursue a growth strategy and to adapt on changes in their business
environment.
