Plaut ushers in a new era in SAP operations management with
FlexFrame from Fujitsu Siemens Computers
SAP systems house opts for the innovative power and
significant cost benefits of the adaptive computing
infrastructure
Munich/Germany, December 22, 2004 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers has recorded another success with
its FlexFrame™
for mySAP™ Business Suite. This time, Plaut/Germany, a
management consultancy, was won over by the innovative SAP adaptive
computing concept with functionality of SAP NetWeaver. Plaut, which
plans to use the system for prototyping, testing and training, sees
FlexFrame as the key to more efficiently operating existing SAP
solutions as well as acquiring new customers. A detailed concept
analysis performed by the company’s in-house SAP specialists
made the FlexFrame decision simple. As a Fujitsu Siemens Computers
technology partner, Munich-based IT consultancy NYX3 was involved
from the beginning in the planning and “ready for SAP”
realization.
Operating mySAP Business Suite solutions is part of the
day-to-day business at Plaut. The company is responsible for a host
of customer installations as part of its SAP outsourcing portfolio,
and this is precisely where Plaut and its customers can benefit
from the innovative power of FlexFrame. A multiplier effect is
guaranteed: with FlexFrame, mySAP Business Suite solutions are far
easier to operate, more effectively prevent the failure of business
critical applications, and respond quicker to changing
organizational and resource requirements. “A new age is
dawning with FlexFrame, and it will be characterized by greater
transparency and, above all, efficiency,” says Hans Leitner,
IT Services Business Manager at Plaut. “During operation, we
have identified significant cost advantages.”
For an outsourcing provider like Plaut, the conceptual
approach of FlexFrame, with the decoupling of hardware and software
as well as the integrated self-healing functions, opens up new
potential. “Until now, Plaut technicians had to frequently
install and re-install new servers, and they had to do so on-site
at the local data center,” explained Michael Jilg, Managing
Director at NYX3. ”With FlexFrame, this is no longer
necessary, since the systems can be started remotely and their
performance scaled at will.” In this scenario, programs and
data are stored on a Network Appliance shared file system, from
where they can be made available easily and flexibly on individual
Intel®-based PRIMERGY blade servers from Fujitsu Siemens
Computers. The open source Linux operating system, which is also
assigned to the various servers automatically, is also stored
centrally.
Plaut, which currently operates 15 independent SAP systems on
FlexFrame, expects administration expenses to be reduced by 50
percent thanks to the new system and also foresees considerable
savings in the area of licensing. The mySAP Business Suite solution
thus makes the Plaut’s outsourcing portfolio more competitive
and bodes well for the company in its efforts to acquire new small
and mid-sized customers.
In terms of platforms, Plaut has opted to use
high-performance Intel-based PRIMERGY servers with FlexFrame,
employing 17 BX300 dual blades and two RX200 rack servers, as well
as a Network Appliance FAS 270 filer. A SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server 8 is being used for the central operating system, while the
backup is performed on a PRIMERGY RX200 with a Scalar 100 MTC
changer. A separate uninterruptible power supply, meanwhile,
protects the entire system.
About Plaut
The Plaut group has around 500 employees and is primarily
active in Germany, France, Great Britain and Switzerland. The
company supports customers from the manufacturing, retail and
service sectors and assists them in conceptual issues regarding
business administration, organization and process layout, as well
as in the efficient deployment of IT-related solutions. With a
special SAP outsourcing portfolio, the consulting group offers its
clients the opportunity to wholly outsource their SAP environments.
The company intends to use the revolutionary FlexFrame
infrastructure solution primarily for these SAP customer
installations. In 2003, Plaut generated around €81 million in
revenue.
