World record for CELSIUS V810 workstation
Fujitsu Siemens Computers manages top score in the SPEC
CPU2000 floating point benchmark suite
Hanover, March 10, 2005 —At CeBIT today, Fujitsu Siemens Computers announced that its
CELSIUS V810 workstation has set a new performance world record for
x86-based computers. The workstation, equipped with an AMD Opteron
252 processor, managed a peak value of 2,045 on the
industry-standard SPEC® CPU2000 floating point benchmark
suite. These benchmarks are a key indicator of computing
performance for applications like simulation and
computing-intensive CAD (computer aided design) workloads.
The result was attributed to the CELSIUS V810’s system
architecture, with its powerful processor and efficient memory
subsystem. This was bolstered by the PathScale EKOPath™
Compiler Suite (release 2.0) for AMD64 and EM64T architecture,
which generates particularly efficient executable programs. Until
now, very few x86 computers have managed to even reach the 2,000
level in this benchmark, which measures the performance of machines
running the Linux operating system for AMD64 with Opteron 252
processors and PathScale’s Compiler, version 2.0.
