on AMD processors
First product shipments expected before end of 2005
Munich, September 01, 2005 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider,
announced that it will enhance its overall offering in the
industry-standard server space through adding AMD Opteron™
processors to its PRIMERGY server line. Products based on the AMD
Opteron processor are expected to take advantage of the dual core
processing technology which assembles two physical processor cores
on one die, improving the server offering for the Dynamic Data
Center focussing on improvement of efficiency, flexibility and
availability in the data center The company expects to ship
PRIMERGY based on AMD Opteron™ before the end of this
calendar year. The PRIMERGY server line already offers 64-bit
Intel® 2-way and 4-way Xeon™ processor MP and
Itanium®2 processor technology.
“Our PRIMERGY server line has come to stand for quality
and innovation, and our customers demand technology that will help
them to enhance their business”, said Jens-Peter Seick, Vice
President Enterprise Servers at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
“By adding the AMD Opteron processor to our offering, we
build on the already strong base to meet customer needs.”
A cornerstone in the Dynamic Data Center
The PRIMERGY server line enables dynamic IT infrastructures.
Consolidated servers and virtualization technologies are key for IT
landscapes in order to enhance performance, to increase the
deployment of resources and to achieve complete new level of
flexibility
The Dynamic Data Center (DDC) is a concept for a
new-generation hardware and software architecture that focuses on
end-user services and service level agreements (SLAs) which enables
on-demand computing to become a reality. With the DDC Fujitsu
Siemens Computers enables companies to move from system-related
tier-IT structures into service-oriented architectures. This means
for example that computers and database resources can be
dynamically aligned to applications and the result is increased
flexibility and reliability, as well as considerable improvement in
the cost-effectiveness of the IT infrastructure.
