The PRIMERGY Advanced Blade Ecosystem 2+2=4
Fujitsu Siemens Computers announces the PRIMERGY X630 blade
server based on the AMD Opteron™ processor
Stockholm, October 13, 2005 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider,
announces a major enhancement to the Dynamic Data Center: the
PRIMERGY Advanced Blade Ecosystem. This industry-leading server
architecture, based on the PRIMERGY BX630 with AMD Opteron™
processors, enables two-way blade servers to connect to become a
physical four-way blade server. For the first time, scale-out and
scale-up technologies are combined in one architecture enabling IT
directors to utilize their server capacity and flexibility creating
a more agile and dynamic data center. The PRIMERGY BX630 blades
server is available now with a price starting 1800 Euro across
Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Customers today are seeing an increase in their applications
that run on two- and four-way industry standard servers. The
Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY Advanced Blade Ecosystem offers
customers the capability to connect and disconnect their two-way
servers to create their ideal environment, without having to invest
in additional hardware. This unique performance flexibility makes
the PRIMERGY BX630 an ideal choice for terminal servers, web
servers or communication servers with heavy load profiles.
In addition, the company also announced an AMD Opteron™
based 1U model - PRIMERGY RX220 – which will complement the
range of rack-optimized systems principally designed for
applications with high performance needs. The PRIMERGY RX220 is
available immediately throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“With the Advanced Blade Ecosystem we offer a unique
innovation to the customer. Based on industry standard AMD Opteron
processors, the PRIMERGY BX630 can easily be integrated into their
existing environments,” says Jens-Peter Seick, Vice President
Enterprise Servers at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “The
PRIMERGY brand represents quality, innovation and technology
designed to help customers to enhance their business.”
2+2=4 – The Direct Connect Architecture
During peak performance requirements, customers can create a
4-way server with two 2-way servers by just connecting the two
2-way servers using the HyperTransport™ link of the AMD
Opteron™ processors. According to actual needs they can
switch from running 2-way servers to 4-way servers and back without
investing into new hardware. The performance of 2+2 matches a
machine with a native 4-way. By choosing Dual-Core AMD Opteron
processors, this blade concept even delivers 8 physical processor
cores in one 4-way blade system. This blade concept is ideally
suited for scale out and scale up scenarios at the same time, which
increases efficiency and utilization of invested hardware and gives
customers a great flexibility.
Due to the usual high heat dissipation companies have to face
increasingly thermal problems in data centers which had become one
of the major problems especially in larger data centers. The
excellent power budget of Opteron processors which is another key
feature of the new PRIMERGY Blade Ecosystem and the RX220 model
reduces the power consumption which means not only lower energy
costs but enables Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY servers to
decrease the heat dissipation and the thermal issues. Also higher
systems density is achieved which helps either to reduce the size
of the server farm or to deploy a larger number of servers in a
minimum space.
The outstanding system performance of the new PRIMERGY models
is based on the innovative Direct Connect Architecture
(HyperTransport™ link) of the AMD Opteron processors. Due to
the direct connection of I/O and memory with the CPU the Direct
Connect Architecture addresses and helps reduce the real challenges
and bottlenecks of system architectures providing optimized memory
performance, balanced throughput, expandable I/O, and more linear
symmetrical multiprocessing.
“AMD and Fujitsu Siemens Computers have worked closely
together to provide a powerful platform addressing the specific
requirements of the server segment leveraging AMD’s
technology leadership in dual-core processing,” said Alberto
Macchi, Vice President of Sales, AMD EMEA. “The Dual-Core AMD
Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture provides the
computing capacity to support the growing number of applications
typically required by this market segment. Additionally, AMD64
technology protects companies’ software investments by
enabling a seamless migration from 32-bit to 64-bit and single- to
dual-core computing as business needs evolve.”
The “mix&match” concept of the PRIMERGY
Advanced Blade Ecosystem ensures customer investment protection.
The new PRIMERGY BX630 blades can be installed and run together
with Intel processor-based PRIMERGY BX600 blades in the same
chassis.
The new cost-efficient PRIMERGY RX220 extends the PRIMERGY
RACK portfolio to the lowest density basic feature segment with
Dual Opteron™ CPUs. With technical evolutions like dual core
CPU and 16 (32) Gbytes direct addressable memory the PRIMERGY RX220
matches perfectly performance requirements for business
applications.
The new products will be shipped across EMEA by Fujitsu
Siemens Computer and in North America by Fujitsu Computer System
Corporation.

About the Dynamic Data Center
The Dynamic Data Center (DDC) is a concept for a
new-generation hardware and software architecture that focuses on
end-user services and service level agreements (SLAs) which enables
on-demand computing to become a reality. With the DDC Fujitsu
Siemens Computers enables companies to move from system-related
tier-IT structures into service-oriented architectures. This means
for example that computers and database resources can be
dynamically aligned to applications and the result is increased
flexibility and reliability, as well as considerable improvement in
the cost-effectiveness of the IT infrastructure.
