Fujitsu Siemens Computers Offers Blade Chassis Subscription
for Linux
Simplified Linux Licensing Enhances Flexibility in the
Dynamic Data Center
Munich, June 01, 2006 —Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider,
today announced a new pricing model for its Linux-based enterprise
servers designed to cut complexity in the Dynamic Data Center. The
PRIMERGY BX 600 and PRIMERGY BladeFrame can now be purchased with a
single Linux enterprise subscription option per chassis. Instead of
licensing the operating system per blade server, customers can
deploy any number of instances of the operating system, once they
licensed the chassis. The single subscription model provides the
customer with better cost control, cost reduction and simplifies
the procuring and licensing process of Linux for blade server
environments. The offer covers Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise
Servers edition and is available through EMEA with immediate
effect.
The new chassis-based subscription model covers all blades
within the PRIMERGY chassis regardless of type of CPU or quantity.
Customers can mix-and-match any number of blade servers with
Intel® and AMD®-based processors within the same chassis
without worrying about licenses for their Linux OS. The new pricing
model adds a new layer to the flexibility and easy-to-install
features of the PRIMERGY servers. By creating a flexible
environment, users will be able to configure, re-provision and
expand on-demand within a PRIMERGY blade server or PRIMERGY
BladeFrame chassis with up to 24 server blades without having to
purchase additional licenses for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
“Linux is supposed to be the fastest growing server
market. Also, the open operating system has become a stable and
flexible enterprise-class operating environment. We feel it is in
our sense for responsibility towards the customers to enable them
to concentrate as much as possible on their core businesses and not
to have to worry about licence costs and processes for every single
blade server when they want to make most of their flexible IT
infrastructure”, says Jens-Peter Seick, Vice President
Enterprise Server Business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
“Especially Dynamic Data Centers, where virtualization and
automation technologies open up new possibilities of adaptive
computing, need new pricing models that match that
flexibility”.
Depending on the blade configuration, customers could see
reductions in their SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription costs
of up to 43%.
