Professional PCs for superheroes
Simpler administration, greater security: the new Fujitsu
Siemens Computers ESPRIMO models with Intel® vPro™
technology
Munich/Germany, September 07, 2006 —Just like Superman, IT administrators are normally invisible
but always arrive in the nick of time when things get hot. To make
life easier for these corporate superheroes, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers is introducing new ESPRIMO professional PCs with the
latest Intel® vPro™ technology to coincide with the
Intel launch. Made in Augsburg, Germany, the small form factor
ESPRIMO E5916 and ESPRIMO P5916 microtower also feature several
in-house developments from Fujitsu Siemens Computers that enhance
system manageability, security and energy efficiency. These two new
ESPRIMO models are now available for prices of around €869
(e.g. in Germany, incl. VAT).
To keep IT infrastructure running as smoothly as possible, IT
managers need systems that are above all easy to administer.
Ideally, all pertinent client data is compiled centrally, software
uploads proceed even when systems are shut down, effective
protection against viruses and unauthorized access is always in
place, and the repair functions can be controlled from the data
center. The Intel vPro-based ESPRIMO E5916 and ESPRIMO P5916 cover
all these bases, also offering a number of additional features to
further simplify IT administration. In combination with the Intel
vPro technology, for example the DeskView manageability solution
from Fujitsu Siemens Computers makes it possible to update software
even when a PC is switched off. The fact that an on-site
administrator is no longer required to debug a system also means
considerably reduced time and resource requirements.
“Since desktop PCs remain unrivaled for the standard
applications used by office employees, our development and
production departments continually improve the systems they use,
explained Peter Esser, Executive Vice President Volume Products
& Supply Operations at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “So
we’re delighted to be able to deliver many of the valuable
features we have developed alongside Intel’s latest
technology in the new ESPRIMO PCs, such as DeskView Load. A
solution we created to make those extensive initial on-site
installations a thing of the past.”
“By significantly easing the control and maintenance of
client systems while at the same time improving security functions,
Intel vPro technology helps save substantial time and money on
administration,” added Richard Curran, Director of
Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group in EMEA. “The ESPRIMO
PCs, developed in Germany by Fujitsu Siemens Computers, bring the
benefits of Intel vPro technology to customers in a compelling
package and allow us to jointly offer even more added value.”
Slashing installation and administration costs
The DeskView Load application, another development to come
out of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ Augsburg facilities, allows
PCs to be preconfigured at the factory and delivered with custom
software packages already installed. Quick and efficient driver
installation is just one of the benefits of such extraordinarily
customer-oriented computers. With specially developed provisioning,
all systems can be activated during the rollout phase with a single
password. DeskView Load, meanwhile, cuts the initial installation
time to around one-fifth of what was previously required. The
DeskView solution simplifies inventory, asset and patch management.
And together with Altiris, Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers a solid
basis for administering heterogeneous platforms.
Security: everything on one card
The ESPRIMO E5916 and ESPRIMO P5916 deliver a range of
enhanced security features. Viruses and harmful attacks are
identified more quickly, regardless of the operating system, and
anti-virus updates are distributed much faster than in the past,
arriving at individual PCs even when they are switched off. With
SmartCase, another in-house development, Fujitsu Siemens Computers
also offers a straightforward approach to preventing unauthorized
access to sensitive data. All passwords are saved on a SmartCard,
which as a result is the only “key” to the PC.
Higher performance, lower power consumption
Energy efficiency is an increasingly important IT
infrastructure issue. So, in addition to Intel’s
energy-saving features, Fujitsu Siemens Computers also offers a
number of other clever tools that lower power consumption –
and therefore costs. The switched monitor outlet, for example,
automatically turns off the monitor when the PC is shut down, while
the “power scheme silent” function curtails processor
output (and power use) during periods of reduced workloads.
