Fujitsu Siemens Computers ties up attractive high-availability package with Replication Now!

Customers get DuplexDataManager replication software free with the purchase of PRIMERGY servers and FibreCAT SX storage systems

Munich, March 29, 2007 —For a limited period, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering corporate customers free replication software when they buy a PRIMERGY server and FibreCAT SX storage system. The Replication Now! Bundle includes DuplexDataManager replication software, which provides enhanced levels of data protection by providing synchronous data mirroring from the server via a Fibre Channel connection to two remote storage systems. This enables corporate customers to further increase the availability of IT systems running on PRIMERGY and to build disaster-tolerant configurations - at the same time saving €2700 licensing cost. The offer is available only from April 1 until June 30, 2007.

"Ensuring that an IT infrastructure runs smoothly, particularly when it comes to servers and storage systems, is a decisive factor in helping to ensure business success," said Dr. Helmut Beck, Vice President Storage, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "That's why a large number of features that provide for fail-safe operation are built into PRIMERGY servers and FibreCAT storage systems. The DuplexDataManager replication software is an ideal addition, as it helps to guarantee IT availability even in the event of a disaster."

The DuplexDataManager
DuplexDataManager, the free software delivered with the Replication Now! bundle, is comprised of two parts: MultiPath (MPIO) and DuplexWrite.

MultiPath provides for redundant data paths from the PRIMERGY servers to the FibreCAT SX storage systems and assumes the permanent monitoring of the connection. In case of an error such as the failure of a Fibre Channel (FC) host bus controller, MPIO uses the second FC channel to access the sub-system, meaning that applications can continue running without any interruption. MultiPath administration can also be used to configure automatic load balancing over all the redundant paths (pathload balancing).

DuplexWrite offers the capacity to write data simultaneously to two storage systems, even when these are installed at separate locations. All data updates can be mirrored while the servers are up and running, thanks to synchronous replication, meaning that DuplexWrite permanently safeguards the storage of identical contents on two systems. In the event of a malfunction, the system is able to automatically switch to the redundant storage system so that all applications can continue to run without interruption.

PRIMERGY servers
The Replication Now! offer applies to Fujitsu Siemens Computers' PRIMERGY RX300 and RX330 rack models, plus BX620 and BX630 blade servers, introduced late last year. The PRIMERGY RX330 server model will be available from May 2007. Both rack and blade servers are based on new processors from the Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 series and Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors (RX330 and BX630) and offer outstanding performance with low power consumption and increased reliability. Among other things, high system stability is guaranteed by a redundant, hot-plug power supply as well as hot-plug hard disk drives .The RX300, BX620 and BX630 also come with redundant cooling fans.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers FibreCAT SX systems
FibreCAT SX disk storage systems from Fujitsu Siemens Computers meet all the demands that enterprises make of storage solutions in terms of speed, reliability and availability. All devices are pre-tested and pre-installed, meaning that they are ready to go in a matter of minutes. While the FibreCAT SX60 primarily addresses the needs of small and medium-sized businesses, the FibreCAT SX80 has been geared to satisfy the requirements of large corporations and data center operators.
Both models feature such state-of-the-art storage technology as redundant components and a 4-Gbps Fibre Channel connection. In addition, FibreCAT SX systems are equipped with the revolutionary FibreCap and FibreCache technology.

Thanks to a direct high-speed connection, FibreCache ensures that the cache contents of the RAID controller constantly remain synchronous to provide significant gains in performance, while FibreCap uses high-capacity capacitors rather than conventional rechargeable batteries to protect the contents of the RAID controller cache in the event of a power failure. As a result, the cache is once again completely functional shortly after the power supplies are restored - while with conventional battery back-up.
