Swarovski and HARTING Technology Group Make Better and Faster Decisions with Fujitsu Siemens Computers and SAP NetWeaver® Business Intelligence

Solutions provide faster data analysis, boosting business intelligence

Munich, November 08, 2007 —

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider, today announced that world-class companies Swarovski and the HARTING Technology Group are leveraging solutions from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and SAP AG to accelerate data analysis.   Both customers are running the SAP NetWeaver® Business Intelligence Accelerator (SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator) software on PRIMERGY servers from Fujitsu Siemens Computers to dramatically improve business intelligence analytics – including performance speed and load time.

Swarovski, the world-leading Austrian-based crystal manufacturer, operates its entire SAP® application-based environment on a PRIMERGY server platform from Fujitsu Siemens Computers.  Swarovski has been using the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator since March 2007. Fujitsu Siemens Computers was the general contractor and supplied the entire service portfolio – from professional services to the preconfigured infrastructure solution.

“We require very complex data evaluation in order to optimize the internal reporting for our management,” explained Helmut Krimbacher, CIO at Swarovski. “However, these reports demand a very good IT infrastructure and excellent processor performance. The continuous increase in data quantities and the constant optimization of our business processes require a much faster data throughput for this process. This extension of our existing implementation of SAP NetWeaver BI, via the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator, means that we can successfully achieve the required performance. Using a complete infrastructure solution from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, we also have an IT platform that fully meets our requirements regarding computing performance, flexibility and reliability. Also, our IT administrators do not have to continually deal with time-consuming routine jobs, but can now work on their other tasks.

The HARTING Technology Group, located in Germany and a leader in developing electrical, electronic and optical connection, transmission and networking equipment, also operates SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator on PRIMERGY Blade servers.  Following a usage analysis in May 2007, HARTING decided to introduce SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator in a pilot project with Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

“The constantly increasing volume of data and the increased requirements for reports and analyses required dramatically shorter access times to business critical information,” said Claus Hilger, general manager, Information Technology at the HARTING Technology Group commented. “Thanks to SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator, our employees can access that information in realtime. A further advantage is that we can now better utilize our other existing IT investments.”

Fujitsu Siemens Computers and SAP Deliver “Supercharged” Business Intelligence Analytics

Fujitsu Siemens Computers delivers the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator software preinstalled on PRIMERGY BX 620 S4 Blade Servers and FibreCAT/EMC CX Series. The combination of solutions is intended to deliver benefits not only enterprise-wide but to various departments across companies. It can be used by department managers in functions including information technology, sales, finance and executive management. The SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator enables managers to quickly access information and evaluate data, therefore enabling faster decision-making and benefiting from the resulting increases in revenue, while also decreasing costs.

“We have worked closely together with Swarovski for some years, and the HARTING Technology Group is a very interesting new customer for our PRIMERGY blade solutions,” said Dieter Herzog, executive vice president, Infrastructure Products at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “Both are far-sighted, future-oriented customers who know how to leverage the advantages of a dynamic and flexible IT infrastructure when optimizing their own business processes. We offer the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator as a pre-installed application on our PRIMERGY Blade Server BX620 so that our customers not only benefit from the excellent product features of our PRIMERGY servers but also, as a result of the reduced complexity of their IT infrastructure, can cut costs.”

Fujitsu Siemens Computers delivers the accelerator infrastructure environment preinstalled on PRIMERGY BX 620 S4 Blade Servers and FibreCAT/EMC CX Series. This environment enables customers to flexible scale-out on a high level and use EMC’s proven storage technology .

Chuck Hollis, Vice President of Technology Alliances, EMC Corporation, comments: “Business intelligence applications are critical for corporations. The jointly developed SAP Netweaver BI-Accelerator package of Fujitsu Siemens Computers and EMC addresses rapidly-growing information databases and the increased demand for information analysis from more people within a company. SAP users now have an excellent opportunity to receive analysis results much faster and within a secure and reliable information infrastructure.”

The SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator – based on compressions, parallel in-memory processing, and search technologies – improves the performance of queries, reduces administration tasks and shortens batch processes. It provides consistently fast response times, even as data volumes, number of users, and analytics increase. As a result, queries that used to take minutes, or even hours, can now be answered in seconds. The software delivers enhanced business intelligence functionality while connecting to the user’s system landscape without extensive customization, development or integration. It is scalable, easy to use, and speeds query executions and data loading, allowing customers including Swarovski and the HARTING Technology Group to maximize their return on investments.

“Making informed decisions in real-time is mission critical for today’s leading companies,” said Stefan Sigg, vice president of SAP NetWeaver BI Server & Enterprise Search, SAP. “We are proud to work with partners such as Fujitsu Siemens to provide our joint customers with solutions that address their business needs, and that enables them to make decisions and analyze data in a way that delivers measurable results.”
