Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Transitive® Forge Partnership to Simplify Enterprise Customer Migrations to New Hardware Platforms
Transitive’s Award-Winning QuickTransit® Hardware Virtualization Product Line available for SPARC Solaris migration to PRIMERGY and PRIMEQUEST systems
Munich, November 15, 2007 —
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider, today announced that the company will distribute the innovative QuickTransit® product line of Transitive® Corporation, the leading provider of hardware virtualization solutions that enable the transportability of applications across multiple processor and operating system pairs. With the QuickTransit enterprise product line, Fujitsu Siemens Computers customers can rapidly transfer their SPARC-Solaris applications from outdated SPARC-based hardware to modern PRIMERGY and PRIMEQUEST servers, without incurring the expense or delays of porting or recompilation. This allows those customers to extend the useful life of key enterprise applications while also gaining immediate performance and functionality benefits of the more powerful server platforms.
The global drive for increased IT efficiency and reduced carbon footprints has led most IT managers to define a proactive datacenter consolidation strategy that requires decommissioning of legacy hardware and the migration of legacy workloads to more energy-efficient, industry-standard platforms. Transitive’s QuickTransit product line makes such transitions faster and easier, and provides support for the most common workload migration paths being adopted by enterprise customers.
“The partnership with Transitive will allow Fujitsu Siemens Computers to offer its customers more convenient solutions for IT infrastructure migration,” said Jens-Peter Seick, Vice President Enterprise Server Business, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “By deploying QuickTransit with the latest PRIMERGY or PRIMEQUEST systems, our enterprise customers can streamline their operations and more rapidly transport legacy workloads to the new platforms. The combined solution also helps our customers to pursue more effective Green IT strategies, since it allows them to replace outdated hardware with more energy-efficient models from Fujitsu Siemens Computers.”
“Transitive is excited to partner with Fujitsu Siemens Computers, given its focus on Green IT and the DynamicDataCenter, which are areas of increasing importance to our enterprise customers and also areas where QuickTransit can have an immediate impact,” said Bob Wiederhold, CEO of Transitive Corporation. “We look forward to working with Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the field, solving customer problems with our unique combination of innovative products and services.”
Transitive’s technology enables software applications to run on different hardware platforms without source code or binary changes and at speeds comparable to native ports. The range of products covered by the distribution agreement includes QuickTransit® for Solaris™/SPARC®-to-Linux®/x86-64, QuickTransit® for Solaris™/SPARC®-to-Linux®/Itanium®
and
QuickTransit® for Solaris™/SPARC®-to- Solaris™/x86-64, which is currently in its beta test phase.
