Fujitsu Siemens Computers extends its FibreTrade offer to include FibreCAT TX systems
The switch to LTO technology saves money and ensures the environmentally responsible disposal of old equipment
Munich, January 15, 2008 —
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Europe’s leading IT vendor, is extending its special FibreTrade deal. Effective February 1st, the offer is no longer confined to the FibreCAT SX family of RAID storage systems but also includes the FibreCAT TX series of tape storage systems. Customers purchasing a FibreCAT TX08, TX24 or TX48 with LTO technology will receive a credit of at least 200 Euros for the systems they replace. This offer is also valid for selected third-party systems. In addition, Fujitsu Siemens Computers will make sure that the decommissioned equipment is either re-used or disposed of in accordance with sound environmental practices. The offer continues until July 31, 2008, in all EU countries, Norway, and Switzerland.
This special offer from Fujitsu Siemens Computers presents small and medium-sized businesses with an opportunity for easy entry into automated tape backups using LTO, a technology that unites high capacity and speed with exceptional reliability and resilience – increasingly important factors for smaller businesses.
“Small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular, require cost-effective, easy-to-use data backup solutions, but not at the expense of speed or reliability,” says Dr. Helmut Beck, Vice President Storage at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “By extending our FibreTrade deal to include FibreCATTX models, we are opening up an easy adoption path for SMEs. Our current tape backup systems feature the latest LTO technology, carry out automated backups to provide excellent protection against data loss, and are easy to upgrade when the need arises.”
Environmentally safe equipment disposal guaranteed
With the FibreTrade offer, customers need not worry about disposing of their decommissioned systems, because Fujitsu Siemens Computers will take care of the environmentally safe recycling of the equipment through its network of authorized sales partners. In addition, buyers of new FibreCATTX systems will receive a credit of at least 200 Euros. The exact amount will depend on the quantity of items returned as well a the age and components of the returned equipment. The offer is aimed in particular at users of older VXA, AIT and DAT/DDS systems.
Automated backups to suit every need: The FibreCAT TX models
The FibreCAT TX08, TX24 and TX48, all of which use LTO technology, are designed specifically to meet the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. They automatically switch tape cartridges, eliminating the error-prone process of changing tapes manually and reducing the amount of time required to complete backup operations. The systems are also easy to manage, featuring a web-based graphical user interface that supports remote operation, easing administration, system configuration and troubleshooting.
The FibreCAT TX08 tape storage system has two magazines and four slots, and can be fitted with one LTO-2 or LTO-3 tape drive. With a form factor of just 1U, this compact system can store 6.4TB of data (compressed). This is equivalent to eight days of automated backups. The FibreCAT TX08 also comes packaged with extras at no additional charge, including a bar code reader fitted as standard, which makes it easier to manage the tapes, and a full BrightStor ARCserve Backup software license.
With capacity for up to 24 data cartridges, the FibreCAT TX24 is designed to allow almost five weeks of unattended backups. The system can be upgraded instantly from 12 to 24 operational slots via a soft key license. The FibreCAT TX24 can be fitted with one LTO-4 drive, one LTO-3 drive or two LTO-2 drives to provide a maximum storage capacity of 38.4 TB (LTO-4, compressed). Using two LTO-2 drives in conjunction with backup software like NetWorker, the system can clone media to create redundant backups. The data is saved to two tapes at once to provide users with additional disaster tolerance.
The FibreCAT TX48 can be fitted with up to four half-height LTO drives or two standard-height LTO drives. It can store up to 76.8TB of data (LTO-4, compressed), 38.4TB of data (LTO-3, compressed) or 19.2TB (LTO-2, compressed). In its entry-level configuration, the system has 12 operational cartridge slots, but it is actually fitted with a total of 48. The 36 additional slots can be activated easily in blocks of 12 via a soft key license.
