Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches two new notebooks, emphasizing its commitment to industry-leading engineering and great looks

Munich/Hanover, March 03, 2008 —

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has unveiled a new notebook that is set to stand head and shoulders above the crowd. The lightweight LIFEBOOK P8010 is aimed at professionals. High-speed mobile broadband connectivity and a raft of security features make this state-of-the-art notebook a masterpiece. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also launched the revamped LIFEBOOK P1620 – an ultra small and lightweight notebook that converts into the world’s lightest tablet PC.

With the LIFEBOOK P8010 anytime/anywhere wireless connectivity is effortless thanks to UMTS 7.2 Mb/s with embedded HSDPA/HSUPA, Bluetooth v2.0 and WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n. This eye-catching notebook features two WLAN antennas in the lid and a Bluetooth antenna in the housing, as well as a SIM card reader and three UMTS antennas, so online access is guaranteed – whatever the location.

The LIFEBOOK P8010 delivers maximum security. Pre-boot authentication is delivered through a built-in SmartCard controller. SystemLock 1 delivers a powerful access control mechanism stopping unauthorized access to the system, setup and hard drives – a higher level of security than conventional BIOS passwords. An optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM) stores key passwords and digital certificates, guarding against software attack and physical theft. An integrated biometric fingerprint sensor provides powerful access control.

The LIFEBOOK P8010 also protects against accidents thanks to a spill-proof keyboard and ShockSensors which protects hard disk drives from damage if the notebook is dropped or somehow vibrated. It also features a built-in ConfCamera, for personal video-conferencing, instant messaging and pictures. Quick-launch buttons, long battery life, the highest-performing Intel processing technology and environmental features also come as standard.

This array of functionality is complemented packed in a look that can be classified as “elegantly rugged”. The 12.1-inch screen, bigger than previous models, is set in a casing that features an accent line, inspired by bamboo, running horizontally across the lid and finished with high gloss lacquer. For the rugged touch- which also makes it very durable for the most frequent of travelers- the hinges are finished in durable chrome and the operational panel is illuminated. The overall impression this 1.2kg notebook creates is that it is engineered to the highest standards possible.

The LIFEBOOK P1620 ultra-light 1kg notebook is the perfect for those who need to replace pen and paper with an electronic device. The revamped version is as compact its predecessor, but comes with many of new benefits. The new brighter 8.9-inch-wide WXGA screen can be simply flipped, converting it into the world’s lightest tablet PC. The screen can be rotated 180 ° in both directions due to its innovative hinge technology, presentations get a personal style with handwriting and no special pen is required for working with the tablet screen. This is a bonus for IT managers who would have needed to care about inventory and replacement.

An optional six-cell battery provides up to nine hours life and seamless connectivity is available through Bluetooth, WLAN (a/b/g) and integrated LAN. It is also Wi-Fi certified for guaranteed interoperability and comes with optional embedded UMTS (HSDPA/HSUPA).

Keeping with tablet simplicity, an integrated fingerprint sensor provides fast access to the system – so there’s no need to type a password. Alternatively, personal Logon passwords can be easily and securely managed with SmartCase Logon+.

Keeping with notebook PC functionality, a small and lightweight port replicator provides quick access to all desk connections.

In terms of wider functionality, the LIFEBOOK P1620 delivers top of the range security, easy data transfer and an ergonomic keyboard. And thanks to the latest Intel ® Centrino ® processor technology ensures increased productivity, extended battery life and the best mobile performance for running all applications.
