Fujitsu Siemens Computers gives SMEs a jumpstart on virtualization

The package “My very first VMware” offers VMware software, PRIMERGY server and FibreCAT storage system at a special price

Munich, September 17, 2008 —

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can now take advantage of the “My very first VMware” bundle from Fujitsu Siemens Computers: a simple, attractively priced way to enter the world of server virtualization. The package consists of a PRIMERGY RX300 or RX330 rack server with already installed VMware ESXi virtualization software and the FibreCAT SX80 iSCSI online storage system. The VMware Infrastructure Foundation Acceleration Kit, which comes with the package, includes licenses for a total of three physical servers so that the solution can be expanded by up to 60 virtual servers, as needed. Customers can now save up to seven percent by using “My very first VMware” instead of buying its individual components. The package will be available from the company’s channel partners starting at € 9,477 from September 17, 2008 to March 15, 2009.

Activate the license key – and you’re ready to go

The bundle is custom-fit for SME requirements in terms of user friendliness, flexibility and value for money. Thanks to the pre-installed virtualization software, all users have to do is enter the license key found in the VMware Infrastructure Foundation Acceleration Kit – and they’re ready to go. The license for three physical servers included in the package allows SMEs to begin virtualization on the ground level and, at an affordable price, expand the solution as the need arises. As a result, companies with VMware can always adapt their virtualization projects precisely to the size of the company and expand whenever the company is ready for it. The bundle does not contain any permanent configurations; instead, customers can put together a package designed to meet their own specific needs. Virtual server management is also included in the VirtualCenter Foundation solution.

The package enables SMEs to fully exploit all of the advantages of server virtualization to meet SME needs: optimized consolidation of hardware infrastructure, centralized server management, enhanced flexibility and more efficient use of underutilized computers. This also considerably reduces power consumption and cooling needs in the data centers. With “My very first VMware”, a company can reduce costs enormously, as well as operate its IT landscape in an ecologically sound way and make an active contribution towards environmental protection.

Maximum customer benefits thanks to FibreCAT and PRIMERGY

The components included in the bundle are designed to provide maximum customer benefits. The FibreCAT SX80 iSCSI online storage solution is equipped with a controller, developed and optimized for iSCSI by FSC, and it offers SMEs in particular an economical way to start off with an IP-based SAN (Storage Area Network). The solution is easy to use and available at a price that SMEs will appreciate. The system uses the company’s standard IP infrastructure as the connection to the server to provide a low-cost, powerful alternative to expensive Fiber Channel networks. High scalability and performance make FibreCAT SX80 iSCSI the ideal SAN solution for simple, inexpensive virtualization projects. The scalable PRIMERGY RX300 and RX330 rack servers are also designed for virtualization tasks. With an expanded main memory and I/O throughput, they deliver all the performance required for consolidation and virtualization. Thanks to optionally redundant components and high availability, business process continuity is guaranteed at all times.
