SDF – command structure Commands in SDF format are easy to understand. They are entered according to English sentence structure (verb-object), for example: SHOW-FILE. The command can also be extended for more details – SHOW-FILE-ATTRIBUTES FILENAMES,INFORMATION=*ALL is a command that will display the attributes of one or more files, or a list of existing files.
SDF – abbreviation of commands Commands can be abbreviated, but they must always be unambiguous. Every word in a command can be abbreviated: SH-FI-A is an abbreviation for SHOW-FILE-ATTRIBUTES. So-called guaranteed abbreviations have been defined for commands used over many generations of operating systems, for example, SHOW-FILES-ATTRIBUTES is abbreviated as SHFA.
SDF – operand check SDF checks the commands entered, along with their operand values, to make sure that they comply with the BS2000 conventions for file names. Command-specific error messages are issued if entries are not correct. IDs and entries of relevance to security are protected through blanking.
SDF – input options SDF commands can be entered directly or "put together" via the integrated help function in various input screens. A question mark ? can be entered in several different places. This will result in the display of available commands or the operands of a command.
